gov The position involves important clerical work involving responsibility for preparing a variety of legal papers under general supervision.
The work requires a good knowledge of legal papers and legal documents and legal terminology.
The work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant District Attorney.
Typical Work Activities:
Performs a wide variety of difficult legal clerical tasks in the District Attorney's office.
Takes testimony before the Grand Jury, and other hearings and investigations of a criminal nature, and transcribes same.
Maintains the docket in the office of the District Attorney.
Sorts, indexes, and files materials.
Serves as receptionist.
Operates a typewriter, computer, mimeograph, adding machine or other office machines.
Does related work, as required.
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Personal Characteristics:
Good knowledge of legal documents, procedures and law office routine.
Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions.
Ability to get along well with others.
Thoroughness, initiative and resourcefulness in the solution of difficult legal clerical problems.
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.
Minimum
Qualifications:
EITHER:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree; OR (B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two-year college or university with an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Science or closely related field and two years of legal clerical experience in an office setting which involved typing; OR (C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of legal clerical experience in an office setting which involved typing.
